Tangier and Kenitra train stations

SOGEA MAROC has associated its brand image with several projects in the construction industry since 2009. Building on our expertise acquired in the construction industry, we take up technical and technological challenges and then carry out complex and innovative projects.

Among our references are the HST stations in Tangier and Kenitra. These two projects, with different designs, are part of high-speed train line project connecting Casablanca to Tangier. Faithful to our reputation as an innovative constructer, we deployed innovative solutions to build these structures, without disturbing passenger or train traffic.

With a remarkable quality of execution, our Building team built aesthetic infrastructures, in accordance with safety standards. The bridges and walkways at Kenitra station were delivered in record time and met customer expectations.

Expert Opinion

Chief Operating Officer in charge of Building

Mohamed Mohout has been a Chief Operating Officer in charge of Building with more than 17 years of experience in the construction industry.

Can you provide more details on the project carried out especially in terms of variants?

At the two HST stations, we carried out major structural and finishing touches (architectural and aesthetic works) as well as outdoor development works. We have also renovated the old Tangier passengers building.

In terms of variants: thanks to the expertise of our team, the involvement of the technical engineering and methodology department, we provided technical variants that meet the customer’s requirements and the specific features of the sites.

In Tangier for example, we used piles instead of large solid concrete blocks which allowed us to gain more time and above all to work in safe conditions while working on a bad soil giving the presence of ground-water.

In Kenitra, the variant of bridge and walkways slabs and was the key solution for crossing the quays without disturbing train traffic.

Could you give details about the time required for delivering both structures?

The initial duration of these projects was 27 months. Then it was extended to 32 months to complete several additional works at the request of the Client, mainly modification and adjustment of shops, expansion of the square, etc. These two projects were inaugurated on November 15th, 2018.

What are the challenges that SOGEA MAROC faced?

The two projects took place in operating sites with very dense rail traffic. Our major challenge was the creation of a walkway crossing the quays in a record time while maintaining train traffic and ensuring high quality work in safe conditions. Another major challenge was the success of the two projects in terms of quality of services and their implementation.
